HI Gary am trying to do some research on my late uncle Dean McGee - do know that the aircraft was shot down over Rumania on the 7/8th May - I have a very old newspaper clipping that I will scan and forward that shows a number of South African  Airmen, 11 Pilots and an air gunner sitting on a wing of a Liberator.

Would appreciate any other news photographs and details of the squadren Lib BZ 932 'Y' according to your web site was the plane that was shot down

Thanks Shannon

Guest:Steve Blandamer: Liberator M - 160 Sqdn

To update the story on Photo of Liberator M - 160 Sqdn.

My Dad, Robert (Bob) Blandamer, was W/O in the crew of Lib M, with F/O Genner as Pilot. They did a couple of flights in her in May 1946, before crewing Lib M on her final journey from KK to Leuchars 11-7-46 where she was scrapped. An eventful journey as they lost an engine twice.

My thanks to Bob Livingston. This is the first time I have seen a photo of an aircraft that dad actually flew in. I have sent Jpegs of Dads log book to Robert Quirk, which records Lib M's final journey.

Guest: 355 Squadron RAF

Hi.  My father, Jack McNamara was a member of 355 Squadron.  His aircraft was EW176 and his Flight Lieutenant was Ted Rowland.  The second in command was Mick Hands.  They joined the squadron in June or July 1945, having flown B24 KL491 from Dorval to Allahabad, arriving on 18 April 1945 (as part of 45 Group RAFTC).  I have a number of Dad's photos of the squadron.  He is still alive and well on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia.  I'd be interested in hearing from any other people from Dad's crew, or who might remember him.   Cheers, Warwick McNamara

Guest: Searching for information

WOW, I am overwhelmed by the information I have found. My father was a member of Squadron #178 and just before the end of the war was transfered to #104. He did not talk about what he did  and we have only just been sent his records. This information is amazing. Thank for putting it all together and enabling us to find out about his past.

Michael Matthey: Hi Caroline 1291801

Hi Caroline, my grandfather was also a member of 321 squadron.  He was from Dutch East Indies, Gerhard Droste, served as a flight engineer.  I am also chasing up more information on the history of the squadron.  I have put an entry on the forum with a bit of background info.  I'm not sure if my grandfather has any photos, but he does have a lot of stories which I'm trying to document while he's still around.  He turned 100 yo last November, but his mind is still really sharp!

It would be excellent to see the photos you have, I hope you get the site membership sorted out soon.

Caroline 1291801: Photo of 321 Squadron

Hi, I've been having a few issues signing up to the site so thought I would try posting here for a bit.

My Grandfather, (Cyril Robert Looker from Christchurch, Dorset, UK), served as Flight Sergeant 1291801 with 321 Squadron (unfortunately I do not know specific dates).

I am trying to identify him in the photo, currently on this site, of the whole Squadron. But it is very difficult to see. I believe he may be in the second row from the back, fourth from the right. But I am really not sure.

If anyone knows please please let me know, I would be ever so grateful. Any information about 321 squadron would also be most welcome.

Hopefully I will be a fully fledged member of this site soon and will perhaps be able to add some photos of my own.

Thank you for taking the time to read through my post.

Good evening.

I am trying to locate anyone who may have served with my uncle Warrant Officer Allan Campbell who was stationed in India with 31 Squadron RAF. He was in the RAAF, and was a navigator.

I would like to find anyone who knew him personally or could share photos with me.

Many thanks.

Guest: Looking for Dad

My departed father, John Easten, flew in Liberators out of North Africa. I remember him telling me as a child that it was 3 legs as they bombed up in Italy as they didn't have enough fuel for the full round trip. I would be very interested in any information about pinning down his squadron, missions, aircraft etc as I want to learn more about his life.

Thanks in anticipation

Regards

Andrew Easten
